About the role

The Technician II - Outside Plant (OSP) will function as a lead member of an OSP team, coordinating small groups of technicians in daily workload while adhering to company safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Pull cables of various sizes through underground duct bank systems.
  • Assist crew members in placing underground pipes, manual labor, and shovel work.
  • Perform all manual labor aspects of the project as directed by the Lead or Supervisor.
  • Guide daily inspections and manage all confined space equipment.
  • Oversee radios and air monitors for projects.
  • Assist the OSP Lead Technician with training new employees.
  • Maintain a clean and organized worksite, free from unnecessary hazards.
  • Complete all IES paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers, etc.).
  • Adhere to and participate in all company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards.
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of OSP experience or underground utility work in telecommunications.
  • Proven ability to interpret blueprints and project documents, including specifications, reporting, and quality requirements.
  • Proficiency with required tools: screwdriver (regular and Phillips), torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight, and gloves.
  • Ability to operate a variable reach forklift, skid loader, and other specialty OSP equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to meet company minimum driving standards preferred.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to withstand prolonged and repeated: lifting (including overhead), standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crouching, crawling, and shoveling.
  • Capable of working in outdoor (heat, rain, snow, etc.) or indoor construction environments.
  • Self-motivated, positive, professional, and able to help create, develop, and implement project process improvements.
  • Proven problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to effectively read, write, and give oral presentations.
  • Ability to work at heights, off ladders, and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to see and distinguish colors, read small print, and hear/recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
  • Willingness to travel within the branch or regional territory as needed.

Pay

$23.00 – $26.00 per hour.

Full-time, direct hire, onsite position.
