About the role
The purpose of this position is to collect preclinical data in studies of rats and mice, as directed by the principal investigators, for the purpose of determining the therapeutic potential and/or abuse liability of new chemicals submitted by the National Institute on Drug Abuse or the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Responsibilities
- Aid in the collection of rodent behavioral data in laboratories.
- Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment, monitor experiments, make observations, and calculate and record results.
- Analyze experimental data.
- Keep logs of all work related activities.
- Measure or weigh compounds and make solutions for use in testing.
- Clean, sanitize, and maintain laboratory workspaces, equipment, and supplies.
- Maintain rat colonies by conducting feeding and routine body weight measurements, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
- Assist with inventory management, ordering, and stocking of laboratory supplies.
- Adhere to all institutional policies, including IACUC protocols, safety regulations, and data integrity standards.
Requirements
- High School diploma is required.
- Active enrollment in or completion of an accredited undergraduate program in a life science discipline (e.g., biology, neuroscience, psychology, biochemistry, pharmacology, biomedical sciences) or a closely related field is preferred.
- Prior experience handling rodents in behavioral or addiction research settings is preferred.
- Prior laboratory bench work experience and knowledge of drug formulation is a plus.
