About the role
The Gelatin Technician I will be responsible for weighing necessary materials and using the gelatin melters to produce gelatin for the Encapsulation department. The technician will prepare 1 out of 3 (Soft gel, Vegan gel or Tapioca gel) gel masses and determine the viscosity of gelatin, if applicable, with the appropriate equipment.
Responsibilities
- Prepares materials for compounding into gel mass.
- Sets-up and cleans equipment for processing operations.
- Operates reactors capable of manufacturing 1 of 3 (SG, VG or TG) gel masses.
- Able to manufacture 1 of 3 (SG, VG or TG) gel masses following batch record instructions.
- Performs or verifies batch record entries.
- Disposes of scrap gelatin.
- Ensures gel mass in receivers are kept at the appropriate temperature at all times.
- Clearly and promptly reports questions, process and equipment problems to Supervisor.
- Ensures batch records, equipment log books, and other relevant records are up-to-date.
- Cleans and maintains processing rooms and equipment.
- Makes necessary adjustments to maintain batch record specifications.
- Follows established department SOP's, cGMP regulations, and batch record instructions.
- Complies with all Company policies and procedures, including safety rules and regulations.
- Maintains a safe work environment and operates in a safe manner.
- Performs related duties as assigned by Management.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent GED Certificate.
- Minimum 6 months experience in an FDA regulated industry.
- Any combination of experience, education, and training that provides the level of knowledge, skills, and experience needed to successfully perform the job.
Work Environment
- Noise level for this work environment is typically moderate to high.
- Some work areas require hearing protection for an 8-hour work day.
- Routinely required to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time during the course of work shift.
- Routinely required to stoop, bend, kneel, lift, reach, pull, push and tilt object in the performance of job function.
- Requires the essential use of hands, speech, eyesight, and hearing.
- Lifting limitations for this position: 40-50 lbs. May have to manipulate heavier containers.
- Periods of odoriferous environment.
- Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Personal Protective Equipment provided as necessary.
- Work environment may involve exposure to chemicals, solutions, detergents, or solvents that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of personal protective equipment.
- Work environment may involve exposure to allergens such as Soy, Wheat, Fish, Shell Fish, Milk, Egg, Tree nuts, and Sesame.
