About the Role

Technicians at Republic Services play a critical role in maintaining the performance and quality of our fleet. A Technician performs routine and preventive maintenance on diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks.

The Technician Apprenticeship program is a two-year training program designed to develop entry-level technicians in the following areas:

  • Electrical diagnosis of starting & charging systems
  • Air conditioning & heating component identification & inspection
  • Wheel end assembly component identification & inspection
  • Air system component identification & inspection
  • Air brakes component identification & inspection
  • Hydraulics component identification and inspection
  • Truck preventative maintenance

The Technician Apprenticeship Program

The Republic Services Technician Apprenticeship program offers opportunities across the United States for a Technician Apprentice to join the team in one of our 180 business units. This program allows aspiring Technicians to earn while they learn.

Apprentice Training Experience

Republic Services Technical Institute provides a unique learning and development environment where employees gain on-the-job work experience while completing their technician education.

  • Initial Training: Nine (9) weeks of company-paid training at the Republic Services Technical Institute in Dallas, Texas.
  • On-the-Job Training: Twenty-two (22) months of on-the-job training (OJT) with mentorship and virtual instructor-led technical content, working towards Apprentice certification as an entry-level Diesel Mechanic.

Individuals demonstrating accelerated development and achieving required milestones can advance to a Level C Technician before completing the twenty-two (22) month requirement.

In addition to technical skills, the Technical Institute focuses on leadership development, life skills, and wellness, while building strong professional networks to support long-term career growth at Republic Services.

Apprentices receive support from a dedicated Mentor to reach milestones needed for successful completion and advancement to a Level C Technician. Upon placement in a business unit, apprentices work under the supervision of a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor or Manager, gaining hands-on experience through the Republic Preventative Maintenance Program and other tasks, including:

  • Basic skills for routine preventive maintenance
  • Basic tire work and wheel end components
  • Mechanic skills
  • Knowledge of hydraulics and electrical systems

Requirements

We provide the technical training needed to succeed in your apprenticeship. In return, we require a commitment to completing this two-year program. Our ideal Technician Apprentice will:

  • Be a logical problem solver with an interest in engineering and technology
  • Be able to work a flexible schedule, including some nights, weekends, or holidays
  • Uphold the values and expectations at Republic Services, including safety, ethics, and respect
  • Be willing to travel to and live in Dallas, Texas for 9 weeks of in-person training (training starts 19 October 2026)

Pay

  • Pay increase after graduation
  • Pay increase for completing 500/1000 hours
  • Pay increase with promotion to Tech C

Boots, uniforms, and PPE are provided. Tools and a toolbox are also provided.
