About the role

This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position reporting to the Project Manager. The Technician 1 is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electronic communication systems, including VOIP, SIP, computer, and networking systems. The role ensures minimal downtime and maximum performance while serving as a key point of contact for system performance with customers.

Responsibilities

  • Final hookup and programming of electronics equipment for new jobs.
  • Promptly respond to customer service-related issues.
  • Test and document readings for customer systems; update customer files.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic components.
  • Handle on-call duties on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Train and instruct customers on proper equipment use.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Operate test equipment, including Volt Meter, Ohm Meter, Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyzer, Multi-meter, and Impedance Meter.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance of customer equipment.
  • Accurately track time sheets, service/installation tickets, inventory items, and progress photographs.
  • Ensure all spare parts, manuals, and keys are safeguarded and signed for at the end of the project.
  • Manage and motivate Technicians and serve as onsite SWC representative when the Project Manager is unavailable.
  • Comply fully with company and customer safety programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by company management.

Requirements

  • A two-year electronics degree or equivalent combination of education and 1+ years of related field experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in the procedures, installation, testing, and troubleshooting of equipment/systems.
  • Experience with VoIP, telephony, data networks, wireless data, fire alarm, CCTV, sound systems, or nurse call applications preferred.
  • Cisco and Microsoft certifications desirable.
  • Ability to install a project from engineering documents with minimal assistance.
  • Ability to manage small to large projects with little supervision.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: High school graduate with basic English proficiency and math skills.
  • Ability to read CAD-generated prints, building blueprints, and riser diagrams.
  • Solid grasp of basic electronics/electrical theory; formal instruction preferred.
  • Proficiency with PCs and aptitude in simple engineering and construction.
  • Preferred: Associate’s Degree in Electronics, IT, or Computer Programming; NSCA CEST Certification, NICET certification, RCDD, and factory training.

  • Ability to achieve proficiency/certifications in SWC products.
  • Planning, organizing, and implementation skills for project completion by deadlines.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations effectively.
  • Valid and current driver’s license.

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, sit, and use hands and fingers.
  • Light lifting of objects up to 50 lbs.

  • Moderate noise levels in the work environment; occasional outdoor work subject to seasonal temperature fluctuations.
