Technical Writer - Remote/Hybrid
Serco is seeking a Technical Writer to support a Department of Defense (DoD) program in Newport, RI.
About the role
This position will support the development, maintenance, and organization of technical, training, and program documentation. The Technical Writer will work closely with program personnel and subject matter experts to produce clear, accurate, and well-formatted documentation in support of program requirements.
Responsibilities
- Develop, edit, format, and maintain technical documentation, reports, procedures, guides, and other program materials.
- Create and update On-the-Job Training (OJT) materials, training guides, job aids, and reference documents.
- Work with subject matter experts to capture technical information and convert it into clear and usable documentation.
- Review documentation for grammar, consistency, formatting, accuracy, and overall quality.
- Organize and maintain documents, technical data, and program files on government network drives, SharePoint, and other approved repositories.
- Support document control activities, including file organization, naming conventions, version control, and document updates.
- Prepare and format Microsoft Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and other program deliverables.
- Consolidate information from multiple sources into standardized reports, documents, and data packages.
- Maintain organized document libraries and ensure current versions of materials are easily accessible to the program team.
- Coordinate with technical and program personnel to incorporate revisions and maintain accurate documentation.
- Support additional documentation and program support requirements as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree and 1 year of experience OR a HS Diploma and 3 years of experience.
- An Active Secret security clearance.
- Experience in technical writing, editing, documentation development, or a related support role.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and document formatting skills.
- Experience organizing and maintaining electronic files, documents, and data.
- Ability to work with technical personnel and subject matter experts to develop clear documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- The ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SharePoint or similar document management systems.
- Previous experience supporting DoD, government, engineering, logistics, or technical programs.

Pay
Salary range: The range for this position is provided as a general guideline and represents a good faith estimate across all experience levels. Actual base salary will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the scope of the role, relevant experience, job-related knowledge, education and training, key skills, and geographic market considerations. For roles available in multiple states, the range may vary to reflect differences in local labor markets. In addition to base salary, eligible positions may include other forms of compensation such as annual bonuses or long-term incentive opportunities.
