About the role

Responsible for the preparation, review, revision, and maintenance of technical documents including software and systems engineering, system operations, testing, and user documentation. Writes and edits technical documentation for hardware and software, covering installation, configuration, and how-to guides. Creates code documentation, implementation guides, end-user guides, field documentation, data definitions, and data flow documentation. Formats technical publications using resources such as pamphlets, technical drawings, and consultations with technical personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing and maintaining operations documentation, user guides, manuals, and technical publications.
  • Gather technical information and prepare written text for various types of documents.
  • Maintain a current internal documentation library.
  • Use word processing and presentation tools such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Work with developers to produce quality documentation and training materials across all phases of documentation.
  • Prepare reports, responses, and briefings for a wide range of audiences.
  • Coordinate layout and design of documents.
  • Research highly technical subject matter, organize information from multiple sources, and express it in written form for a broad audience.
  • Write technical copy for documents based on engineering drawings, consultations with engineers, and other sources.
  • Produce defense acquisition documentation, user manuals, training manuals, and other documentation for DoD electronic equipment and systems.
  • Interpret engineering and maintenance drawings, operational procedures to understand and blend large quantities of computer-related information.
  • Produce technical documentation for Cryptologic programs or projects developing analytic tradecraft methodologies.
  • Apply technical manual standard NSA DS-89 to work products.

Requirements

  • Six (6) years of experience as a Technical Writer (TW) in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university. Four (4) years of additional TW experience may substitute for the degree.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with an appropriate current polygraph is required.
  • Ability to receive privileged access rights.
