Technical Writer I
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Technical Editor & Document Support Specialist to provide on-call support for the development, review, editing, quality assurance, and production of client-facing deliverables. This role supports program management, operations, quality, and technical teams by ensuring documents meet contractual requirements, organizational standards, and client expectations.
About the role
This is a flexible, part-time on-call position that will provide support based on workload demands, deliverable schedules, and special projects. The ideal candidate has experience supporting federal contracts, editing complex technical and operational documentation, coordinating document reviews, and applying document control processes in a deadline-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform technical, substantive, and editorial reviews of client deliverables, including:
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Plans and reports
- White papers and executive summaries
- Meeting minutes and briefing materials
- Training and operational documentation
- Process guides and job aids
- Ensure documents comply with approved templates, formatting standards, and style requirements.
- Improve clarity, consistency, grammar, readability, and document flow while preserving technical accuracy.
- Ensure a "one voice" approach across deliverables and eliminate redundant or conflicting content.
- Support document authors throughout the deliverable lifecycle.
- Assist with document assembly, formatting, version control, and final production.
- Coordinate redline reviews, comment resolution, and incorporation of stakeholder feedback.
- Verify adherence to contractual requirements, quality standards, and internal approval processes.
- Review and update SOPs, process maps, workflows, and guidance documents.
- Ensure documentation remains current, accurate, and aligned with operational procedures.
- Support periodic documentation reviews and continuous process improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to simplify procedures and improve document usability.
- Maintain document repositories and version control records.
- Support document tracking, approval workflows, and submission readiness reviews.
- Verify completeness of required approvals, signatures, references, and revision histories.
- Assist with preparation of final client submission packages.
- Support special projects, audits, operational assessments, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Participate in document review meetings and working sessions as needed.
- Provide surge support during high-volume deliverable periods.
Requirements
- Authorization to work in the US
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field or 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree
- 2+ years of experience in technical editing, document management, quality assurance, or related field (6+ years of experience is required without a bachelor’s degree)
- Demonstrated experience reviewing and editing client-facing deliverables
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
