About the role
As a Technical Writer, you'll be working with Federal Government clients and Steampunk team members to support a design-led team as we develop content for a new website on our customer's intranet. The role may also help to codify business processes, standardize methods and techniques, and provide documentation and business process improvement support.
Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively to write new content for an internal-facing website for a government customer, including expanding upon old content and creating new content from scratch.
- Review content written by the government customer, editing it for content and clarity, and collaborate with stakeholders on the editing process.
- Manage content trackers to ensure the content team is hitting milestones and produce reporting documentation to communicate progress, risks, and next steps to partners.
- Support a Disruption Designer with the rollout, branding, communication, and adoption strategies for the new website.
- Conduct interviews or other discovery to frame pain points and opportunities, define problem statements, and shape the content.
- Synthesize research and data to craft compelling stories and presentations that communicate insights and recommendations.
- Customize and tailor documentation to support business process standardization, accountability, and increased efficiency and effectiveness.
- Identify areas of improvement in business processes and work to document and implement those improvements within the program.
- Write and edit easy-to-understand documentation, online help, and guides to support use of the new website.
- Communicate effectively and decisively with all levels of the organization and exercise sound judgement with regards to sensitive and confidential information.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in a writing- or editing-heavy position.
- Ability to obtain a government security clearance.
- Ability to work independently or with other team members to capture requirements and translate into technical documentation.
- Advanced organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher (or 7 years of work experience with 4 years of relevant writing and editing experience).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience writing training documentation.
- Experience with change management.
- Experience developing technical writing products such as presentations, reports, charts, and visual aids.
- Experience analyzing existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities, and creating and maintaining information architectures.
Pay
The projected compensation range for this position is $90,000 to $130,000, which represents a typical annual salary range and is just one aspect of Steampunk’s total compensation package for employees.
