Technical Writer
Job Duties And Responsibilities
Develop, revise, and maintain work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), process maps, job aids, and other controlled documentation supporting manufacturing, supply chain, engineering, quality, and operational functions.
Translate complex technical concepts and business processes into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation appropriate for a variety of audiences, including production personnel, technicians, engineers, and business stakeholders.
Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather information, validate technical content, and ensure documentation accurately reflects operational processes and requirements.
Support documentation updates associated with new products, process changes, corrective actions, continuous improvement initiatives, and operational readiness activities.
Create and maintain value stream maps, process flow diagrams, workflow documentation, and visual process tools that support operational understanding and process optimization.
Partner with cross-functional teams to document current-state and future-state processes as part of continuous improvement, Lean Manufacturing, and operational excellence initiatives.
Assist in identifying documentation gaps and opportunities for process standardization and knowledge management improvements.
Ensure documentation complies with company document control procedures, configuration management requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
Maintain documentation consistency, formatting standards, version control, and traceability across controlled documents.
Assist with internal audits, compliance reviews, and documentation assessments to verify accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established standards.
Support organizational knowledge-sharing efforts by creating training materials, reference guides, and supporting documentation for operational processes.
Provide guidance to employees on accessing, interpreting, and utilizing technical documentation effectively.
Partner with functional leaders to improve documentation accessibility, usability, and standardization across the organization.
Job Requirements And Minimum Qualifications
- 2-5 years of relevant experience in the Aerospace, Defense or Manufacturing industries with a Bachelors Degree.
- Working knowledge of technical writing principles, document control practices, and quality management systems within a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, ITAR, Lean Manufacturing principles, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Expertise in interpreting technical information, manufacturing processes, engineering documentation, and business workflows and translating them into clear, user-friendly documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Document Control and Content Management Systems, and ERP and PLM Systems (Acumatica, Windchill, SAP, or similar).
