Technical Writer
About the role
The ideal candidate will develop and maintain high-quality technical documentation for complex system architectures, data flows, and operational procedures. This role supports system enhancements and modernization initiatives by creating clear documentation for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including system architecture diagrams, data dictionaries, user guides, and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure all documentation, user guides, and related deliverables comply with Section 508 accessibility requirements and federal accessibility standards.
- Ensure all documentation is updated within 10 business days of system changes.
- Collaborate with program stakeholders to support accessibility reviews, remediation efforts, and compliance validation for documentation artifacts.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and developers to gather and validate system information.
- Establish and enforce documentation standards, templates, and version control.
- Manage the program’s documentation repository for accessibility and compliance.
- Translate complex technical information into clear, user-friendly documentation.
- Support audits and design reviews by ensuring documentation accuracy.
- Coordinate periodic documentation reviews to maintain accuracy.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Information Technology, Computer Science, Communications, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in technical documentation within an IT or system engineering environment.
- Experience documenting complex systems, including APIs and data structures.
- Ability to translate technical concepts for varied audiences.
- Experience with version control and configuration management practices.
- Proficiency in documentation tools such as Confluence, SharePoint, or Visio.
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining documentation that meets Section 508 accessibility compliance standards for federal agencies, including knowledge of accessibility testing, remediation, and accessible document creation practices.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional technical teams.
- Candidates must be eligible to obtain & maintain a Public Trust Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting federal healthcare programs or system modernization initiatives.
- Familiarity with CMS processes or standards.
- Experience with agile software development environments.
- Understanding of enterprise data models and interface specifications.
- Experience developing documentation for cloud or hybrid architectures.
- Tech writing certifications or relevant industry credentials.
- Experience with automated documentation tools or AI-assisted processes.
