Technical Training Specialist

To start as soon as possible, full time, permanent position in Operations & Maintenance. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Operations Training.

About the Role

The Technical Training Specialist will help design and deliver various technical, safety, and in-field training programs, including High Voltage Awareness, Substation Awareness, Electrical Switching, NFPA-70E, Substation Electrical Schematics, Solar Technical, BESS, Electrical and Hydraulic Troubleshooting, LOTO Awareness, Confined Space Awareness, and other training programs that align employee performance with the organization’s goals. The role involves determining training objectives, writing training programs (outlines, handouts, courses, exams, and practical exercises), and relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Candidates will need a high degree of creativity and latitude and will perform other related duties as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver in-person classroom and on-the-job training to RWE technicians on various technical and safety topics related to multi-brand wind turbines and solar farms.
  • Independently manage classroom presentations and lead real-world training scenarios for students to ensure safe and effective rescue response.
  • Design and develop instructor-led training (ILT) and eLearning on various technical, safety, and in-field topics, including High Voltage Awareness, Substation Awareness, Electrical Switching, NFPA-70E, Substation Electrical Schematics, Solar Technical, BESS, Electrical and Hydraulic Troubleshooting, LOTO Awareness, Confined Space Awareness, and related subjects.
  • Upload and maintain training materials in the training LMS, maintain accurate records, and generate reports.
  • Continuously evaluate and update training materials.
  • Conduct site visits to deliver training, facilitate practical exercises, administer exams, evaluate competencies, and perform related activities.
  • Support the development of other instructors through peer evaluation and feedback.
  • Ensure all participants meet learning objectives outlined in course and module outlines during course delivery.
  • Continuously develop new competencies and rescue techniques for multi-brand turbines to support rescue response across all turbines serviced by RWE technicians.
  • Participate in training audits as required.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a related field, such as education, learning and development, training, wind turbine technology, or solar technology.
  • High Voltage certification is highly desired.
  • OSHA 500/501 trainer course for construction or general industry is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in wind, solar, BESS, or a similar industry.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in high-voltage work or a similar industry.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience delivering formal training programs for adult learners in a safety or technical discipline.
  • Good working knowledge of PPE inspections, training administration tools, and training administration processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, as well as pivot as priorities shift.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

  • Initiative: Must be able to work with minimal supervision and make decisions on issues related to their discipline(s) with limited and/or available information. Identifies opportunities for training and develops and improves internal training initiatives.
  • Problem Solving: Strong ability to plan, organize, and deliver training in dynamic field environments to ensure course material is covered and objectives are met.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Proven record of working and interacting with both management and technical teams; skilled in human relations, conflict resolution, and facilitation in a team environment; proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from diverse backgrounds during classroom and/or hands-on presentations, including assessing and checking for understanding during practical rescue exercises.
  • Technical/Functional Knowledge: Strong knowledge of electrical and hydraulic schematics, troubleshooting, and high-voltage equipment, including switching concepts and safe work methods for wind turbines and solar farms.
  • Detail-Oriented: Must demonstrate a detail-oriented and deadline-oriented mindset while managing multiple and changing priorities.
  • Flexibility: Able to adjust plans in response to changing conditions and travel on short notice.
  • Resource Management: Make effective use of available resources to achieve operational goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated desire to learn about the company and the renewable energy industry.
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the use of hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to push, pull, and lift tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work safely in extreme environments, including hot sun and cold conditions.
  • Ability to walk, climb, and stand extensively during the workday.
  • Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations.
  • Must pass a fit-for-duty medical examination upon hire and every two years thereafter and maintain a body weight of 270 lbs. or less.
  • The work also requires flexibility and a full range of movement in confined spaces.

Work Environment

This position is office-based, with some travel to other RWE Americas office and field locations. Field environments may include hazardous conditions, such as working at heights up to 300 feet, working in confined spaces, exposure to bloodborne pathogens, exposure to energized electrical and rotating equipment, and working in extreme hot and cold conditions.
