About the role

The Technical Theater Supervisor oversees all technical operations for the Jennersville YMCA Theater Program, supporting productions, educational programming, special events, and facility needs. Reporting to the Theater Director, this role manages lighting, sound, scenic construction, stage operations, and theater safety while fostering a welcoming, collaborative environment for volunteers, students, artists, and community members.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all technical aspects of theatrical productions, including lighting, sound, projections, scenic construction, rigging, and stage management support
  • Teach and lead technical theater programs, workshops, and camps for youth participants, including instruction in lighting, sound, stagecraft, scenic construction, backstage safety, and theater technology
  • Mentor youth technical theater participants as they step into roles including lighting operator, sound operator, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with community volunteers to execute plans for scenic construction and other technical elements
  • Communicate with fellow program staff to ensure effective use of time and space for all programs
  • Operate and troubleshoot theater equipment and systems during rehearsals and performances
  • Lead with enthusiasm and positive motivation in program
  • Organizes and maintains program records including, but not limited to: attendance records, rosters, etc.
  • Manages all equipment. Maintains a clean and risk-free environment
  • Communicates effectively and timely with program participants and parents
  • Ensures all children are picked up by a parent
  • Promotes other YMCA programs by handing out brochures, answering questions, or referral to appropriate person
  • Ensures compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate combines strong technical theater expertise with leadership, organization, and a passion for arts education and community engagement
  • 18 years of age with high school diploma or GED
  • Experience in technical theater production, stagecraft, or theater operations
  • Working knowledge of lighting, sound, scenic construction, and backstage operations
  • Ability to supervise crews and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong troubleshooting and organizational skills
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds and work evenings/weekends as required by production schedules
  • Obtain and maintain all new hires certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire

Qualifications

  • 2-year degree or higher in a related field preferred
  • Experience working in nonprofit, educational, or community theater environments
  • Experience teaching or mentoring students and volunteers
