Technical Specialist (Safety Building Services)
We are looking for a recognised and experienced candidate to provide specialist operational safety support, guidance, and advice to the Head of Department and Departmental Managers and Officers on all aspects of health and safety as related to the maintenance and compliance teams. They provide proactive monitoring of accident/incident and near-miss data to offer detailed advice and solutions to senior management. The candidate arranges training for departmental users at all levels and ensures compliance with safety legislation and University policy. They work in partnership with the divisional Health and Safety team to enable cutting-edge operational activities within a culture of safe working.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialist advice, support, and solutions in all aspects of health, safety, and welfare, working with key stakeholders.
- Create and maintain accurate safety records to enable regular auditing and proactive actions; analyse and interpret safety data.
- Develop consistent safety policies and procedures across Building Services.
- Analyse and investigate the root cause of safety issues to find short- and long-term solutions.
- Write generic risk assessments and method statements/standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Requirements
- Vocational qualifications (NVQ level 4-5 or equivalent), or formal training/relevant degree, plus experience in a relevant role; or significant relevant experience.
- Appropriate professional safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH General Certificate).
- CDM and Contractor’s control course.
Qualifications
- Desirable: Mechanical or Electrical background knowledge.

- Full-time work pattern (35 hours per week).
Pay
£39,906 - £44,746 per annum
