About the role
Performs all duties of the bench staff in the specialty as determined by site need (i.e., Medical Technologist, Histotechnologist).
Responsibilities
- Develops and implements quality control and quality assurance policies and procedures.
- Validates processes directly responsible for ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.
- Maintains laboratory safety practices and corrects hazards.
- Maintains workflow and adjusts as necessary to meet deadlines.
- Maintains preventive maintenance program and ensures regulatory compliance.
- Participates in inspection process.
- Provides financial evaluations as part of procedures, instrumentation, and reagent evaluations.
- Assists supervisor with technical staff development, including competency and coaching.
- Provides technical expertise and consultation to internal and external clients.
- Reviews laboratory results and quality control for accuracy and validity.
- Documents information for quality assurance/improvement according to established protocols.
- Utilizes computer information systems appropriately.
- Aids in improving laboratory procedures, policies, and processes.
- Aids in writing and revising technical procedures and policies.
Requirements
- Medical Technologist (MT) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification.
- Knowledge of moderate and/or high complexity testing as defined by CLIA '88.
- Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in laboratory computer systems, including word processing and spreadsheet use.
- Thorough knowledge of statistics and ability to apply statistical analysis to laboratory decisions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Organizational ability, attention to detail, and accuracy.
- Ability to handle stressful situations professionally.
- Ability to manage multi-tasking, meet deadlines, and delegate assignments.
- Ability to articulate knowledge effectively.
- Team-building and collaboration skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, or Histotechnology.
- Typically requires 2 years of experience as an instrument key operator.
Skills
- Knowledge of moderate and/or high complexity testing as defined by CLIA '88.
