Technical Specialist II

About the Role

CAI is seeking a motivated Toll Equipment Technician II to perform independent troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of roadside toll collection equipment with minimal supervision. This full-time, onsite position is located in Portage, IN.

Responsibilities

• Perform independent troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of roadside toll collection equipment, including Automatic Toll Payment Machines (ATPMs), Automatic Ticket Issuing Machines (ATIMs), lane controllers, gates, treadles, loops, lasers, and associated peripherals.
• Conduct complex diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and equipment installations while mentoring junior technicians.
• Respond to and resolve incidents assigned through the incident management system, escalating only significant or complex malfunctions.
• Perform comprehensive preventative maintenance, including inspection of equipment elements, cleaning switches, connectors, relay contacts, and adjusting printers and other components.
• Lift and handle heavy equipment such as coin vaults and vault frames as per maintenance procedures.
• Conduct daily site inspections of roadway tolling equipment, canopy and gantry-mounted equipment, server racks, networking equipment, UPSs, and facility environmental monitors.
• Complete corrective, preventative, and inventory management forms, ensuring accurate documentation in incident and inventory management systems.
• Interpret wiring schematics and diagrams for troubleshooting and replacement of electronic and electromechanical parts.
• Perform basic equipment hardware installation, cable termination (coaxial and CAT 5), and software configuration for toll equipment.
• Utilize software tools to diagnose and troubleshoot tolling equipment in Windows and Linux environments.
• Install, maintain, and monitor CCTV cameras.
• Remove damaged repairable equipment for shipping to bench repair facilities and install temporary or permanent replacements.
• Assist Senior Technicians and Toll Supervisors with equipment installation and testing at existing and new tolling sites.
• Provide training and mentoring to technicians on proper procedures, equipment operation, and troubleshooting techniques.
• Participate in after-hours on-call rotation for callouts, with the ability to travel to affected locations as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 2-4 years of experience in electronic equipment maintenance, toll systems, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience with troubleshooting electronic and electromechanical systems.
• Associate's Degree in Information Systems Technology, Electronics, or equivalent experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret wiring schematics, parts diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Skilled in the use of volt/amp meters, basic network testing tools, and hand tools.
• Knowledge of computer networks principles, basic computer repair, and electronic theory.
• Basic knowledge of Fiber Optic systems and CCTV Systems.
• Knowledge of toll collection system operations and revenue equipment.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and mentor less experienced technicians.
• Ability to work at heights of up to thirty (30) feet and lift fifty (50) pounds.

Qualifications

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
• Must pass a drug test within 30 calendar days prior to the start date.
• Must successfully complete and pass all company safety training.
• Completion of company-provided advanced toll system training.
• Available for on-call rotation after normal working hours.
• Must be available to work assigned shifts (6 AM to 3 PM or 2 PM to 10 PM).
• Must report to work within seven (7) minutes before scheduled shift time.
• Must provide at least 24 hours' notice if unable to make a scheduled shift.
• Overnight travel may be required.

Physical Demands

• Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA and other federal, state, and local standards.
• Sedentary work involving sitting or remaining stationary most of the time, with occasional need to move around.
• Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor.

Pay

$26.50 per hour. Exact compensation may vary based on location, experience, and education.
