Technical Specialist
About the role
The Center for Advanced Ceramic Technology at Alfred University seeks a Technical Specialist to support industrial projects in the areas of technical ceramics and glass, including operating a wide range of equipment used in ceramic materials processing and characterization.
Responsibilities
- Support industrial projects in the areas of technical ceramics and glass materials.
- Plan for optimal delivery of diverse research and testing activities in the area of technical ceramics and glass materials.
- Work with a diverse clientele in a highly professional manner, including but not limited to federal agencies, state agencies, industrial sponsors, and AU faculty and staff.
- Supports and assists in creating intersections for faculty, staff, and students that will assist in transforming people's lives.
- Supports and assists in creating an evolving culture of mentoring and rich engagement opportunities for faculty, staff, and students.
- Maintain a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competence and respect for a wide range of identities and experiences, therefore welcoming and supporting all faculty, staff and students and expanding access to the AU experience.
- Maintain a safe working environment within and around their facilities and associated equipment and supplies including, but not limited to, obtaining Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information pertaining to any hazards associated with their work environment.
- Participate in all required assigned training, including safety training and will comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
Requirements
- Minimum of master’s degree in engineering field; Ph.D. degree in engineering related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working in ceramic materials processing, characterization, and related advanced manufacturing processes.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; Excellent organization skills; Ability to collaborate across functional groups within the University; Knowledge of typical materials characterization tools and testing procedures is a plus.
