Technical Sales Representative

About the role

Act as the primary contact for the assigned region’s existing and potential customers. Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction with delivered services, prospecting for new customers, and expanding service opportunities. Maintain sales production volume to support the region’s targets and objectives through sales and marketing of the assigned territory.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate, propose, and close on renovation/up-fits, inspection, service, repair, small contracts, and monitoring sales, including maintaining a suitable backlog of work proportional to existing service capacity and staffing.
  • Actively pursue new customer opportunities through calling efforts, group presentations, and introductory correspondence.
  • Prepare, oversee, and coordinate the timely preparation of all proposals for inspection and service work within the assigned area, ensuring uniform compliance with company policy, procedure, and financial objectives.
  • Act as the primary contact with customers within the assigned area, resolving service problems, identifying opportunities for expanded services, and ensuring overall satisfaction with delivered services.
  • Maintain and store sales documentation in the database as required.
  • Track and report sales as required by the VP of Sales.
  • Conduct annual review, audit, and assessment of customer accounts when directed within standard guidelines prior to account renewal.
  • Provide support and follow-up to field personnel regarding the preparation of cost estimates, proposals, submittals, drawings, and other materials directly related to the delivery of services to the customer.
  • Participate in pre-job start-up meetings to ensure compliance with the completion of proposed work and prepare change order quotations as necessary.
  • Follow up on change order quotations to ensure timely acceptance.
  • Work cooperatively with sales and marketing, technical support, inspection, and service departments, and related personnel on the delivery and reporting of, or follow-up to, inspection and repair services.
  • Complete continuing education necessary to maintain current certifications and/or licenses as required for the position.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English fluently.
  • Must possess a practical knowledge of fire protection codes and standards.
  • Must possess the ability to read and interpret construction documents and shop drawings.
  • Must provide quality customer service.
  • Must be a self-starter and possess the ability to work alone.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills.
  • Must handle multiple projects and identify priorities.
  • Must interact well with all levels of individuals, internally and externally.
  • Must maintain a positive and professional demeanor.
  • Must possess the ability to handle change, resolve conflict, and solve problems as they arise with minimal direction.
  • Must possess excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Professional programs and applicable database programs.

Qualifications

  • 4-7 years of experience in fire protection systems, plus:
    • Minimum Level II NICET certification in desired field required (or the ability to obtain Level II within the first year of employment), OR
    • The equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds, work from heights above 10 feet, and work in confined areas.
  • Must be able to lift, crouch, reach, handle, push, and pull.
  • Must be able to drive a vehicle.
  • Must be able to travel out of town.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to use a telephone, computer, and other office equipment.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $65,000.00 to $85,000.00 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, skills, certifications, education, internal equity, and market data for comparable roles. While most offers will fall within this range, we may consider compensation outside the published range in exceptional circumstances where a candidate's experience and expertise would bring significant additional value to the organization.
