This research assistant position is at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts and involves performing behavioral neuroscience and pharmacology studies in laboratory animals.
Responsibilities
- Conducts daily experiments in behavioral neuroscience and pharmacology using:
- Neurochemical assays to determine how drugs and/or environmental stressors induce changes in brain neurotransmitters
- Complex behavior and cognitive assays to characterize how psychoactive drugs and/or environmental stressors impact neurobehavioral processes
- Physiological assays to determine how drugs and/or environmental stressors alter biological activity
- Learns a variety of complex neurochemical, behavioral, and cognitive assays in laboratory animals, drug preparation and administration protocols, in vivo microdialysis techniques, and stereotaxic surgery skills
- Analyzes data using computer-based statistics/graphics programs and prepares reports of results
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's Degree required
- Experience: Experience working with tools or skills relevant to digital mental health such as app development, programming, data analytics and visualization preferred
Qualifications
- Knowledge: Knowledge of basic computer programs and basic computer skills for communication, clinical, and administrative purposes
- Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to follow and perform clinical research protocols, excellent organization skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks, careful attention to detail
