Technical Project Manager, Portfolio
About the role
We are seeking an experienced and driven Technical Project Manager to manage the development of new industrial and rugged computers, edge systems, and servers. This role requires an onsite presence at our South Burlington, VT or Cary, NC office; we encourage candidates who are able to relocate or comfortably commute to apply.
Responsibilities
- End-to-End Program Leadership: Drive development projects from initial concept through prototype build, validation, and production using a structured gate-staged development process.
- Strategic Planning & Execution: Develop and manage comprehensive project plans for all engineering initiatives, including detailed schedules, budgets, sourcing, and prototype build strategies.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate strong relationships with diverse stakeholders and foster collaboration with cross-functional teams, from senior leadership to highly specialized engineers.
- Risk Management: Take ownership of project and portfolio risks and proactively implement mitigation strategies.
- On-Time Delivery & Budget Control: Ensure timely execution of projects across all internal departments and external partners while staying within the project development budget.
- Transparent Communication: Provide clear and consistent progress updates to both internal and external stakeholders throughout all phases of development.
- Strategic Technical Decision-Making: Evaluate product requirements against development complexity, cost, and time-to-market; facilitate cross-functional discussions on product health to drive informed phase-gate exits and mitigate architectural risks.
- Interdisciplinary Leadership: Apply knowledge of the design process to identify friction points, optimize interdisciplinary workflows, and ensure project velocity remains unhindered by technical dependencies.
- Continuous Improvement: Implement process efficiencies and cross-functional standards to enable faster development cycles and scalable product delivery.
Requirements
- 5+ years experience delivering large, complex projects on time and on budget.
- B.S. Degree in Engineering or Computer Science; a Master's degree is a strong plus.
- Demonstrable expertise and deep technical knowledge in computer hardware, electrical design, mechanical engineering, and system integration.
- Proven track record managing vendor relationships.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, risk mitigation, and time management skills.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and conflicting priorities.
- Experience with project management tools (e.g., Jira, Smartsheet).
- A detail-oriented, organized, and adaptable work style.
- PMP or comparable certification is a bonus.
