Technical Platform Director
Technical Platform Director
About the role
This role is unique at pmtbox, a VC-backed fintech company with over 1,000 active clients. The position involves leading engineers, shaping the platform, and staying close to the product and code to make an impact.
Responsibilities
- Solve complex, real-world problems in payments and data
- Build scalable, reliable, and simple systems
- Turn copious data into seamless business outcomes for clients, typically senior leaders of omnichannel retail enterprises
- Own the construction and maintenance of the core platform
- Manage a team of engineers to ensure the delivery of solutions on ambitious timelines
- Ensure platform development avoids dead ends that would hinder growth
- Stay close to the code: design, review, and contribute when needed
- Set a high bar for engineering quality, speed, and pragmatism
- Unblock engineers quickly and effectively
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small, high-performing engineering team
- Build a culture of ownership, accountability, and builders (not ticket-takers)
- Partner closely with the CTO to prioritize what matters most
- Think in terms of customer impact, not just technical convenience
Requirements
We are looking for someone who has led engineers and stayed close enough to the work to contribute meaningfully. Experience with Ruby/Rails is ideal, but not required. Backgrounds in Python/Django, PHP/Laravel, Go/React, or similar are great. We care far more about how you solve problems than what tools you've used.
Qualifications
- Experience with AI-assisted development workflows
- Understanding of data, workflows, APIs, and architecture
- Ability to improve product outcomes and not just code
- Experience with AI and its impact on development speed and approach
- Experience with AI and its validation and handling of failure modes
- Experience with AI in both its strengths and limitations
- Responsibility for outcomes, not just roles
- Proactivity and not waiting to be told what to do
