Position Summary

As a Technical Operator, you will be responsible for the set-up and high-quality running of printing and converting machines at an optimum speed without supervision. The position follows standard work methods, established food safety standards, quality standards and practices safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible. This position offers an hourly pay range of $21.00–$34.00, with starting pay based on relevant experience, technical skill level, and demonstrated ability.

Essential Functions

  • Operate high speed press printing, lamination, slitting and converting machines
  • Set-up & run quality products within specifications and without supervision
  • Perform changeovers (Load/unload rolls), changing tooling and adjusting machine components based on product specifications
  • Monitor the production line, watching for malfunctions such as pileups, jams, or glue that is not sticking properly
  • Troubleshoot when malfunctions occur, clear machine jams, and report malfunctions to a supervisor
  • Adjust machines to maximize run speed
  • Inspect product for quality making sure remove and record non-conforming product
  • Secure completed rolls to a pallet for shipping, Pack finished goods, attach identification labels, and package according to customer shipping specifications
  • Aid in training new operators
  • Prepare routine administrative paperwork

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be primarily in our climate-controlled facility
  • The plant floor is subject to vibration and equipment noise leading to a loud environment
  • The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and might also be exposed to outside conditions, tight spaces, cleaning solvents and heights

Physical Demands

  • Continuous (6 or more hours per day) bending, pushing, pulling, climbing stairs, reaching, lifting, and grasping
  • Continuous (6 or more hours per day) talking, listening, teaching, and repetitive motion, hand/wrist movement
  • Continuous (6 or more hours per day) standing and walking
  • Frequent (1 to 3 hours per day) work in a stooped position
  • Good eyesight, normal hearing
  • Ability to move and lift objects, frequently 50 lbs

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days, nights and hours may vary depending on assigned shift and productions requirements. This position may require significant work hours beyond the normal workday based on the demands of the business cycle or customer volume of business.

Travel

Should not be required.

Required Education And Experience

  • High School diploma or GED and at least 2 years of experience that is related to the duties and responsibilities specified
  • Ability to read and write English
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures
  • Knowledge of equipment operation and/or maintenance
  • Ability to train staff
  • Ability to perform simple arithmetic
  • Ability to read a tape measure
  • To be effective this person must have the ability to troubleshoot complex issues with equipment operation
  • Capable of multi-tasking the operation of production
  • Some positions may require ability to become forklift certified (company provided)
