About the role

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) seeks a Technical Operator Technician II to support traffic operations and maintain electrical and electronic traffic control systems in District 3. The position is based in Rock Springs, a city known for its outdoor activities and rich cultural heritage.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs, builds, and maintains complex electronic equipment.
  • Maintains and diagnostics hardware and software.
  • Replaces damaged parts; inspects and diagnoses specific problems.
  • Performs preventive maintenance, emergency repair and troubleshooting, modifications, utility locates, operation, software maintenance and oversees initial operations.
  • Maintains and modifies site parameters using software when site changes are made.
  • Monitors operations remotely, responsible for site and factory-acceptable tests on new installations.
  • Responsible for procurement, inventory, and planning.
  • Troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, installs, performs utility locates, and inspects contractor installations of complex electrical and electronic devices.
  • Provides traffic control when needed and wears proper protective gear.
  • Completes daily, weekly, and monthly reports and inspection forms.
  • May provide advanced training to less experienced specialists.
  • May assist or oversee contractors' installation.
  • Inspects, diagnoses, and documents and repairs roadside lighting.
  • Adheres to all safety standards, policies, and procedures to include the correct use of all associated personal protective equipment.

Qualifications

  • PREFERENCES/ **Agency Requirements: Preference will go to applicants with a Traffic signal level 1 or above IMSA certification.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Wyoming CDL permit within 30 days of employment.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Wyoming Class A CDL within 9 mos of employment.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a certification to operate equipment as directed by WYDOT.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Certificate of course completion of Defensive Driving.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Flagger Certification.
  • Knowledge Basic hand tool use and knowledge.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting electrical or electronic devices.
  • Ability to read and use a digital multimeter.
  • Ability to perform the job in a safe manner.
  • Proper training in basic first-aid and CPR.
  • Ability to work at heights above 45 feet out of a bucket or lift truck.
  • Ability and experience with construction work.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the internal workings of traffic signal components and cabinets.

Education

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's Degree.
  • Experience: 0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Technical Operations) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Technical Operations Technician I.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Some agencies may require a valid Class C driver's license.

Notes

  • FLSA: Non-Exempt.
  • Must obtain a Class A CPL within 30 days of employment.
  • Must obtain a Class A Commercial Drivers License with appropriate endorsements after 1 year of employment.
  • WYDOT will conduct motor vehicle record checks to verify a valid driver's license.
  • Individuals in this classification must pass a pre-employment drug screening and/or physical and will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • Individuals in this classification may be required to be available for emergency work calls at any time, including but not limited to nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Acceptance of an appointment to this classification signifies that the individual is aware of this requirement and will comply with it. Failure to be available for emergency work without an acceptable excuse will be grounds for immediate disciplinary action and possible dismissal.
  • The State of Wyoming is a Drug-Free workplace.
