Duties And Responsibilities
- Reviews and approves various QSMS instructions and procedures
- Responsible for shipyard repair oversight, including:
- Making sure repair work is done correctly and stays within budget
- Negotiating and settling related invoices
- Handles the technical parts of the vessels being managed
- Checks how well the vessels are performing and keeps track of their costs
- Looks at safety meetings and gives feedback if needed
- Plans ahead for when ships will go to shipyards for repairs
- Schedules maintenance tasks and makes sure they follow standard procedures
- Checks that the companies working on the ships meet all the necessary technical and quality standards
- Approves requests to buy new ships when needed
- Codes invoices and receipts
- Promotes good relationships between the crew and management
- Addresses important issues during vessel visits
- Ensures the ships are safe and in good condition
- Communicates with the operators and charterers about the ships' activities
- Collaborates with the HSSEQ staff on safety, quality, and environmental matters
- Does periodic visits to the ships
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in marine engineering, naval architecture, or a related maritime discipline
- USCG Senior engineering license preferred
- 5+ years of experience in marine engineering, fleet technical operations, or vessel management
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with computers and fleet management tools
- Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple vessels and projects
- Ability to travel as necessary, sometimes on short notice, including for shipyard projects and drydock oversight
- Organized, decisive, and results-oriented
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Experience with Nautical Systems – Enterprise (NSE) preferred
