About the role

Join our growing team as a Technical Manager in support of the FAA’s critical mission to maintain the safest airspace in the world. This full-time on-site position is located in Oklahoma City, OK at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC). The Operations Support Second Level Engineering (SLE) Groups serve as the FAA’s premiere level Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for National Airspace System (NAS) systems and equipment. SLE is a national organization providing second-level engineering support that directly affects the safety of the flying public. SLE Groups support a broad range of systems, including thousands of individual pieces of equipment in Facilities, Surveillance, Communication, Power, Navigational Aids, Enterprise, and Weather Systems.

Technical Managers serve as the contractor’s Front-Line Managers, responsible for providing contractor supervision within each branch/team and making all project assignments. They function as the contractor interface with the FAA Team and Sub-Team managers, as well as with the Contracting Officer Representative (COR).

Requirements

  • Be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Possess a RealID Driver’s License/ID or current U.S. Passport (required for FAA Public Trust security clearance).
  • Reside or be willing to relocate within a commutable distance to Oklahoma City, OK.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, or a Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology or another technical field (e.g., Physics, Aerospace, Chemistry, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Mathematics). Non-U.S. degrees must have a U.S. Equivalency Certificate.
  • 6–10 years of experience.
  • Experience with NAS facilities, systems, and equipment.
  • Experience providing hardware and/or software support for electronic systems.
  • Management experience of engineering groups or teams (desired).
  • Knowledge of Government procurement and contracting rules and regulations (desired).

Responsibilities

  • Set priorities, assign tasks and projects, and provide technical assistance to contract staff.
  • Monitor, evaluate, coach, and develop contractor performance and capabilities.
  • Review and approve deliverables, travel vouchers, leave requests, and training forms prior to FAA submission.
  • Manage contractor performance related to quality, quantity, and timeliness, ensuring personal services are avoided.
  • Coordinate with FAA managers on programmatic issues and ensure required FAA approvals for travel, overtime, and purchases.
  • Oversee contractor training, including developing talent, submitting training requests, and ensuring accurate cost estimates.
  • Submit reports and information requested by the FAA.
  • Take or recommend corrective or disciplinary action when appropriate.
