About the role
The Technical Leader I / NDE Technology will join EPRI's growing NDE Team and have the opportunity to lead the development and advancement of NDE in the power industry.
Job Functions
- Lead efforts primarily in the electromagnetic research area and participate in the development and application of products and services through self involvement, contractors, departmental or cross-functional teams.
- Apply technical expertise and develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity, creativity and sometimes thinking outside the box.
- May conduct research directly in complex, high impact technical or scientific fields.
- Provide guidance to the industry on optimum NDE application and inspection practices and successfully transfer the technology of the research results and products for member use.

- Manage projects efficiently and effectively. Successfully meet program and sector goals including financial goals, as well as meeting project milestones, and facilitating technology transfer.
- In an unbiased objective manner, communicate strategies and results, written and verbal, to program members, potential members and external stakeholders through reports, meetings, webcasts, workshops, and conferences.
- Develop research or services opportunities of value to EPRI members that fit EPRI’s mission, vision and capabilities. This will include solving customer problems, producing insights and information vital to the members, and delivering training that will benefit and be valuable to EPRI members and their stakeholders.
- Develop, propose, and promote new NDE R&D project ideas to the NDE, Technology Innovation programs and advisory committees
- Work closely with the Program Manager to support the NDE Program and Director’s vision
- Work with other EPRI programs and sectors to develop and execute projects.
- Work with both domestic and international members to ensure they are receiving value from EPRI. This could require some travel, including internationally.
- Broaden technical expertise and interface with national and international technical networks with manufacturers, consultants, national labs, academia, and research organizations.
Education Level & Experience
- Minimum of 5 to 10 years of field experience performing electromagnetic inspections, research and/or development project and promotional experience, including development of advanced concepts for internal research or equivalent experience.
- Proven leadership and capability in management of projects involving technical complexity.
- Experience working in a utility as an electromagnetic NDE staff, service provider, or researcher is preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Has developed relationships with primary advisors to a research area.
- Provides assistance to the EPRI sales staff in Member Services and EPRI International.
- Communicates strategies and results, written and verbal, to program members, potential members and external stakeholders through guidelines, reports, meetings, webcasts, workshops and conferences.
- Continues to communicate work across EPRI programs to make sure parallel work is informed.
- May provide oversight of a project team to assure technical and financial milestones are met.
- Organizes the external and interdepartmental activities ensuring completion of the project/product on schedule and within budget.
- Supports the planning and execution of complex project work within the technical department to meet member/client objectives; prepares and presents research reports.
- Manages small or medium (less complex) projects including budgets and resources.
- Begin interfacing with national and international technical networks (e.g, manufacturers, consultants, academia and research organizations).
- Supports proposal efforts and new promotional work.
- Develops research or services opportunities of value to EPRI members that fit EPRI’s mission and capabilities. This will include solving customer problems, producing insights and information vital to the members, and delivering information in a manner that members and customers can and will apply.
- Continues to provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
- Experience applying AI-driven solutions for data analysis, reporting, and decision-making.
Pay
The salary range for this position is $115,000 USD to $130,000 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
Schedule
This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s annual incentive program. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.
