About the role
The High Temperature Applications Technical Lead is responsible for technical direction of internal and customer-funded projects consisting of densification, tooling, equipment, and composite characterization on research and development composite structures. This work includes identification and execution of technology development projects to advance high temperature applications, in addition to building/improving upon existing densification methods such as Carbonization, Graphitization, PIC, CVI etc., and tooling/equipment to improve AEC's core technology.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead application development for diversified high temperature opportunities inclusive of concept development, analysis, fabrication of composite parts/assemblies and testing.
- As required, this may involve technically/programmatically leading customer funded and IRAD funded projects/programs.
- Provide input and prioritization to the identification and execution of research and technology development activities which will increase the differentiating value of 3D woven composites and increase the application opportunities while providing increased benefits to our customers.
- Engineered textile hypersonic applications
- Engineered textile CMC applications
- Driving the prioritization of activities within the R&T organization
- Strategic planning and technology road mapping for areas of responsibility
- Stay abreast of industry trends in technology development and best practices and participate in relevant industry events
- Maintain the technical focal for communication externally and internally for all high temperature activities within the R&T organization
- Drive new technology advancements into production programs for high temperature applications.
Knowledge
- Technical leadership experience
- BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical or Textiles Engineering, Materials Science; equivalent experience may be considered
- 10+ years experience in high temperature composites processes and supporting practices in a relevant Research & Development or production setting
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes for polymer and ceramic matrix composites
- Relevant experience in aerospace materials and structures including injection and infusion and high temperature conversion methods
- Strong engineering design and mechanical skills particularly in tool design
- Knowledge of composite materials mechanical behavior is considered a strong plus
- Familiarity with DOW programs
- Experience in the design and fabrication of thermal protection systems (TPS)
Skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of 3D woven composite component design geometry
- Demonstrated knowledge of 3D weaving / forming / high temperature processes and ability to support design activities of appropriate solid models for tooling and fixtures based on the underlying physical principles
