Key job responsibilities

  • Identify and drive continuous improvement in HVAC and mechanical systems to increase energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and enhance performance.
  • Develop and own the roadmap for enhancing efficiency, improving life/durability and reducing total cost of ownership for sustainable HVAC systems.
  • Evaluate emerging HVAC technologies and vendors for applications such as advanced heat pumps, geothermal systems, advanced air filtration, dedicated outdoor air systems (DOAS), evaporative cooling, and data-driven preventive maintenance strategies applicable to Amazon facilities.
  • Lead multiple development projects that integrate sustainable HVAC technologies from concept through execution including business case development, stakeholder alignment, vendor selection, technical scoping, permitting, design, construction, commissioning, and launch.
  • Create, collect and maintain project documentation, including technical specifications, drawings, and progress reports.
  • Collaborate with various suppliers, contractors, consultants, certification agencies and construction managers to deliver solutions at Amazon buildings.
  • Establish and track KPIs for monitoring, evaluating and reporting on performance of HVAC systems and suppliers to stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Evaluate the latest sustainable technologies and industry trends and identify opportunities for implementation
  • Collaborate with compliance and health and safety teams to validate new technologies that comply with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest sustainable technologies and industry trends and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards. Work with external innovation companies to understand new HVAC technology and its potential benefits in Amazon facilities.
  • Oversee the delivery of capital projects related to mechanical systems, from scoping and design to construction and commissioning.
  • Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders, including technology providers, customers, partners, and vendors, to deliver complex/cross-functional projects.
  • Identify and drive improvements in the BMS, HVAC and mechanical systems to increase energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and enhance performance.
  • Provide technical leadership on BMS, HVAC and mechanical system design, installation, operation, and maintenance.
  • Lead cross-functional teams, manage resources, and maintain project schedules and budgets.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on the performance and efficiency of HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Review engineering designs & drawings, construction and commissioning documentation and perform system inspections for construction quality, safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in/lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) to resolve systemic or recurring technical issues with actionable corrective measures.
  • Provide support for hazard evaluations and risk assessments to comply with applicable OSHA, EPA, and International Building Code requirements or methodologies.
  • Analyze operational data, KPIs, OEE, etc. to identify gaps and areas of potential improvement.
  • Lead discussions to handle concerns and Requests for Information (RFIs). This will require technical knowledge, resourcefulness to navigate through internal and external resources, and a focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Interview stakeholders to gather essential features and requirements for the new technology deployment.
  • Build the business case for the new technology and work with stakeholders to ensure buy-in.
  • Develop a roadmap for the new technology, including short-term and long-term scaling strategies.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field
  • 3+ years of technical program management experience
  • Experience managing multiple projects and priorities across teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • 5+ years of experience in HVAC and mechanical system design, construction, operations, or maintenance, ideally within manufacturing, industrial warehouse, or commercial building environments
  • Proven knowledge of HVAC systems and air distribution equipment, including rooftop units (RTUs), CRAC units, DOAS, HVLS fans, exhaust systems, and advanced filtration or zoning solutions
  • Experience with hands-on testing, troubleshooting and diagnostics of base building mechanical systems using tools and software
  • Experience supervising or managing HVAC and utility installations in new construction, retrofits, or energy upgrade projects
  • Ability to interpret and recommend adjustment based on HVAC testing, adjusting and balancing (TAB) reports, commissioning results and control setpoints
  • Familiarity with safety standards and regulatory requirements including international building code (IBC), National Electric Code (NEC), ASME, NFPA and ASHRAE standards
  • Experience preferably in a supervisory or project management role in the installation of utilities and infrastructure in new construction and existing building
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering (PE) License, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or LEED accreditation is highly desirable
  • Master’s Degree in engineering or relevant technical discipline
  • Experience with building control system optimization, including BMS data analytics, demand-controlled ventilation, and setpoint tuning
  • Ability to build simplified heating and cooling load calculation models (e.g., using Excel or equivalent tools) to estimate potential energy savings and guide equipment selection or retrofit strategies
  • High capability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, frequent changes in priorities, and changes in the business environment
  • Understanding of psychometrics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamic processes and their relation to HVAC related applications
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills to successfully integrate and align a multi-discipline team in delivery of projects
  • Adaptable, hands-on problem solver able to thrive in fast-paced, evolving environments
  • Experience using HVAC monitoring software, such as Niagara BMS and historian data analysis for troubleshooting
  • Ability to train new and existing site technicians on basics of HVAC, Mechanical and Plumbing equipment operation, and maintenance
