Responsibilities
- Proactively identifies design gaps, cross-discipline conflicts, and constructability issues before they reach the field, identifying solutions in addition to documenting challenges.
- Serves as the primary engineering resource for assigned projects, bridging the gap between the project design team and field operations throughout all phases of delivery.
- Reviews mechanical design documents at each milestone for code compliance, completeness, internal consistency, and constructability; maintains structured design review logs and tracks comments to resolution.
- Supports and drives the RFI and submittal processes to align with field construction needs, actively managing design team review cycles to ensure timely turnaround; includes review of shop drawings, product data, and equipment submittals for conformance with contract documents and applicable standards.
- Supports and executes design-build, delegated design, and design-assist scopes in coordination with engineering subconsultants, ensuring deliverables meet project requirements and applicable codes.
- PARTNERS DIRECTLY WITH FIELD SUPERINTENDENTS AND TRADE PARTNERS TO RESOLVE TECHNICAL ISSUES IN REAL TIME, PROVIDING ENGINEERING JUDGMENT ON FIELD CONDITIONS, DESIGN DEVIATIONS, AND INSTALLATION SEQUENCING; SUPPORTS THE COMMISSIONING AUTHORITY THROUGH SYSTEM STARTUP AND CLOSEOUT.
- Maintains structured technical records in alignment with enterprise documentation standards.
- SUPPORTS AND DELIVERS INTERNAL TECHNICAL TRAINING AND CONTRIBUTES TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF ENTERPRISE ENGINEERING STANDARDS.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design or construction.
- Working knowledge of applicable mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection codes and industry standards as they relate to large-scale, industrial, and mission-critical construction.
- Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and critically evaluate mechanical engineering deliverables to identify errors, omissions, and cross-discipline coordination issues.
- Familiarity with RFI and submittal review workflows on construction projects.
- Familiarity with design-build, design-assist, or delegated design project delivery models, including understanding the roles and responsibilities of design and construction teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to translate technical positions into clear, actionable language for both engineering and non-engineering audiences including field supervision, project management, and owners.
- Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu and web-based project management platforms such as ACC, Procore, or similar.
- Able to manage competing priorities across multiple concurrent projects and maintain documentation discipline under schedule pressure.
- Collaborative by default, proactive by habit.
Education & Certifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering required; related education considered with demonstrated mechanical experience.
- Relevant Engineering licensure (PE/EIT) preferred.
- OSHA 10 preferred.
- Commissioning credentials are a plus.
- Autodesk Forma, BIM/Revit proficiency is a plus.
