Technical Director, Program Management

WSP is seeking a Technical Director, Project Management for our Valhalla, NY office. Join our Eastern New York Team and contribute to a growing organization focused on meeting client objectives and solving their challenges.

About the Role

Our Eastern New York Team provides project management and engineering services for major transportation infrastructure projects within the Hudson Valley, upstate New York, and New York City. You will work on multiple projects simultaneously, coordinating closely with various technical disciplines. This role supports and manages major transportation projects, overseeing cross-functional teams to ensure successful project execution.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams of technical disciplines and subject matter experts to execute project work on mid-to-large and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, cost, compliance documentation, and managing contractual obligations.
• Lead the development of project proposals, cost estimates, scope, schedules, and resource plans.
• Manage budget development, monitoring, Estimate to Completes (ETCs), recovery plans, and invoices.
• Responsible for change management, such as documenting scope changes or scope additions.
• Lead quality management efforts, defining quality metrics and planning quality assurance and control activities.
• Partner with management staff to maintain regular client communications, including reporting on monthly status, safety incidents, and major issues with scope and budget impacts.
• Provide continuous project management and quality program support.
• Monitor project progress, claims, and invoicing/payments.
• Lead/support the development and updates to the Risk Management Plan, Project Management Plan, Project Quality Plan, and Project Safety Plan as necessary.
• Provide regular project reporting and updates to clients, technical area, and discipline managers, identifying emergent issues with scope, risk, and/or budget.
• Manage and provide performance guidance and leadership to assigned project management staff.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
• Manage and develop competitive grants for transportation projects.
• Support the development of local growth, forecast, and business development strategy in collaboration with local, regional, and national business line leaders.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Planning, or a related discipline.
• 12+ years of relevant post-education experience with 5+ years specifically in transportation projects.
• Proficient understanding of the project delivery process within the A/E/C industry and a strong background in project management.
• Highly proficient critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess and apply project management principles effectively.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact persuasively and tactfully with leadership, subcontractors, and employees at all levels.
• Self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and adaptability to changing priorities in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to work independently, providing guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior-level team members while adhering to the Project Quality Plan.
• Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, relevant software, MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint, Power BI), and project management tools.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in coordinating resources and assertively directing staff, subconsultants, suppliers, and subcontractors.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
• Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background knowledge of the transportation planning, design, or construction industry.
• Experience with Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or other project scheduling software.
• Experience in preparing written correspondence and presentations.

Pay

Expected salary range: $174,400 - $250,100. The final compensation will be based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal equity, as well as the specific geographic location.
