About the Role
We are seeking a skilled technician to manage technical setups for live performances, campus events, and external rentals, ensuring seamless operation of sound, lighting, and stage equipment.
Responsibilities
- Program, set up, and operate audio and lighting systems for theatrical shows, campus events, and outside rentals in Marinello and Kulas.
- Lead stage prep, rigging, strike, and equipment maintenance across both performance spaces.
- Serve as the primary technical point-of-contact and operator for external client rentals and non-departmental campus events.
- Maintain scene shop inventory, service technical equipment, and enforce safety protocols on stage and backstage.
- Mentor and train students and other staff members in the safe and efficient use of lighting and sound equipment.
- Complete additional projects for the Assistant Director of Student Engagement for the Fine Arts, as needed.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience running theatrical sound boards, lighting consoles, and stage equipment.
- Background managing technical setups for live performances and rental events.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work flexible hours (nights and weekends) around event schedules.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Interest in understanding and supporting John Carroll’s mission to inspire individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service in the region and in the world.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience coordinating with campus facilities, vendors, and non-technical clients booking rental spaces.
- Knowledge of JCU theater facilities.
