Technical Designer - Senior

As a Senior Technical Designer with Gensler’s team in Charlotte, you will collaborate with our Design Directors to develop design solutions and coordinate the design through the construction documentation phase. Your focus will be on project delivery, technical execution, BIM leadership, and building envelope detailing. You will translate architects' sketches and documents into realized 2D/3D models and images, research artistic and technical issues, and contribute to a highly collaborative, client-focused culture that values design quality, resilience, and social purpose.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all project phases, including conceptual designs, presentations, schematic design, design development, construction documents, and production
  • Collaborate with design team, clients, consultants, contractors, fabricators, regulatory agencies, and other vendors to meet overall project objectives
  • Utilize hand rendering techniques to communicate design concepts
  • Contribute to project execution, BIM modeling, technical coordination, and provide QA/QC support

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program
  • 10+ years of relevant experience within a commercial design firm
  • Knowledge of building codes, zoning, jurisdictional processes, building materials, specifications, and construction techniques
  • Experience with all phases of the design process from schematic design through construction administration and field observation
  • Strong proficiency with Revit
  • Proficiency with SketchUp, Enscape, or other 3D modeling software, and the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organization, and collaboration skills
  • Passion for design excellence and continuous learning
  • Demonstrated commitment to resilience and sustainable building practices

Pay

Our annual base salary range has been established based on local markets.
