What We Do

Epic Games is seeking a Technical Designer in Animation (TDiA) to join our team. This role involves designing and creating gameplay animation systems that enhance entertaining, high-quality characters. The ideal candidate will work closely with Animation, Design, and Engineering teams to ensure smooth and efficient operation of the animation pipeline. They will also collaborate with Technical Designers in Animation (TDiA) across Epic Games to share solutions, align workflows, and leverage existing tools and systems.

What You'll Do

  • Build animation behavior tools, techniques, and frameworks that support complex systems and engaging characters
  • Design and implement animation state machines, behaviors, and runtime solutions
  • Work with animation leadership to translate creative visions into technical realities, maintaining style consistency and raising the quality bar
  • Collaborate with Design and Engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve in-game animation issues and technical challenges
  • Identify opportunities to improve the animation pipeline and workflow, and provide technical solutions for the animation team
  • Create documentation and conduct training to enhance the technical fluency of the animation team

What We're Looking For

  • A strong sense of animation with a clear understanding of realistic and stylized character motion and their creation with advanced animation methods
  • An expertise with animation pipelines, including tools like Maya, MotionBuilder, and Unreal Engine's Control Rig
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities, strong written communication, and teamwork skills
  • Strong familiarity with gameplay animation tools and concepts, such as blend trees, state machines, and Unreal Engine Animation Blueprints
  • Experience with AAA game development, preferably on a large team using an established game engine (internal or commercial), with Unreal Engine experience a plus
  • A self-motivated, hardworking individual capable of working independently
  • Experience with C++ is not required
