About the role

This apparel company, based in New York City, is hiring a Technical Designer to help bring women's activewear and outerwear from concept to production. The role sits at the center of fit, construction, and quality, working directly with Design, Product Development, Production, and manufacturing partners to ensure every garment meets brand standards before it reaches the floor.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical documentation that drives production, including tech packs with garment sketches, measurements, grading, construction details, and specifications, along with Bills of Materials, packaging requirements, care and content labels, carton markings, fold and hanger pack instructions, and UPC information.
  • Run and participate in fit sessions with live models, analyze fit issues, and provide clear, actionable comments to vendors and internal teams to ensure garments meet the intended fit, function, and construction.
  • Review prototypes, fit samples, and pre-production garments alongside pattern makers and manufacturing partners, confirming samples meet standards before they move forward.
  • Flag development and construction challenges early in the product lifecycle and propose solutions that balance design intent, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Apply hands-on knowledge of fabrics, trims, garment construction, and manufacturing techniques to maintain product durability, comfort, and overall quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, or a related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of Technical Design experience in the apparel industry.
  • Experience with women's apparel.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and CAD software.
  • Strong knowledge of garment construction, patternmaking, grading, and fit evaluation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and with vendors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in women's outerwear and/or activewear specifically.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent development cycles and competing production timelines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills applied to fit and construction issues.

Pay

$90,000 to $115,000 per year
