Technical Data / Media Specialist
BAE Systems has immediate openings for a Technical Data/Media Specialist to support operation of a tactical data library at the Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC) in Wallops Island, VA. The SCSC is located on a barrier island on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and is a tenant of NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility. It provides live combat systems suites with platform-specific radars and sensors, supporting combat system lifetime support engineering, platform certification, operational and technical evaluation, combat system training, interoperability testing, and participation in at-sea exercises. SCSC maintains a high-fidelity representative combat system for every ship in the AEGIS and Ship Self Defense System (SSDS) fleet, both current and future.
About the role
The selected candidate will operate the technical library circulation system, providing technical information services including web products, visual information products, and acquiring library materials. Responsibilities include library reference assistance, maintaining records from various online sources, and handling classified documents and media in accordance with security guidelines.
In support of specific test event requirements, the candidate will assemble computer program media, charge out media to requesting teams, and charge in returned media upon completion of test events. The role also involves monitoring and auditing library holdings.
This position is governed by the Service Contract Act (SCA) and is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Responsibilities
- Operate the technical library circulation system.
- Provide technical information services, including web and visual information products.
- Acquire library products and offer reference assistance.
- Maintain records from various online sources.
- Handle classified documents and media in compliance with security guidelines.
- Assemble computer program media for test events and manage charge-out/charge-in processes.
- Support monitoring and auditing of library holdings.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED and two years of experience in:
- Operation of a technical library or cataloging program.
- Providing technical information services, including web and visual information products.
- Acquiring library products and offering reference assistance.
- Maintaining records from various online sources.
- Data management, inventory, or auditing experience may be considered.
- An Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in information management, information science technology, or a technical library and information center discipline is preferred. Other degrees with significant coursework related to managing information or technical libraries may be considered in lieu of experience.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required). If the selected candidate does not hold an active clearance, they will receive a contingent offer, and the start date will be delayed until an interim clearance is granted.
Schedule
The successful candidate must be willing and able to work a variety of 40-hour work-week configurations, which may be scheduled on a rotational basis, including:
- Monday–Friday (5 x 8): 1st Shift
- Monday–Friday (5 x 8): 2nd Shift
- Variable 4 x 10 shifts that may include weekends (4 days on/3 days off) and may be 1st or 2nd shift.
- Sliding (5 x 8) work weeks (Sunday–Thursday or Tuesday–Saturday) and may be 1st or 2nd shift.
