Technical Business Analyst (AWS focus)
About the role
Supports cloud modernization and application migration initiatives within a federal IT environment. Bridges the gap between business stakeholders and technical teams by gathering requirements, facilitating discovery discussions, and translating business needs into clear, actionable technical documentation.
Responsibilities
- Conduct stakeholder interviews and facilitate requirements gathering sessions for application and infrastructure initiatives.
- Document business needs, functional requirements, and high-level technical requirements in user stories, process flows, and requirement specifications.
- Support cloud migration discovery discussions by asking clarifying questions around application architecture, data, security, and performance needs.
- Translate business requirements into preliminary cloud solution components (e.g., compute, storage, database, and networking concepts at a high level).
- Collaborate with cloud architects, engineers, and developers to refine requirements into technical designs.
- Avoid performing deep engineering design but assist in identifying dependencies, risks, and constraints for migration or modernization efforts.
- Develop and maintain documentation including requirements traceability matrices, meeting notes, and process workflows.
- Support Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and demos.
- Ensure requirements align with security, compliance, and federal IT standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business, Computer Science, or related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in a Business Analyst or similar requirements-focused role.
- Basic understanding of cloud computing concepts (AWS preferred).
- Familiarity with core cloud services such as: Compute (e.g., EC2 concepts), Storage (e.g., S3 concepts), Databases (e.g., RDS concepts).
- Strong communication skills with ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience writing requirements, user stories, and process documentation.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools (Jira, Confluence, etc.).
Qualifications
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business, Computer Science, or related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in a Business Analyst or similar requirements-focused role.

Skills
- Basic understanding of networking, security, or application architecture concepts.
- AWS Cloud Practitioner certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Exposure to cloud migration or modernization projects.
- Experience in federal or regulated environments (NIST, FISMA a plus).
- Ability to work alongside technical teams without needing to perform hands-on engineering.
