About the role
We are seeking a Technical Accounting Manager to join our Finance & Accounting team. This role involves serving as a subject matter expert on complex accounting matters, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP, researching technical accounting issues, drafting position papers, and partnering cross-functionally to support new transactions, business initiatives, and process improvements.
Responsibilities
- Research and document the company's accounting positions on complex or non-routine transactions (e.g., revenue recognition, equity transactions, debt/equity financing arrangements, consolidation)
- Draft clear, well-supported technical accounting memos and position papers for management and external auditors
- Monitor emerging accounting standards (FASB updates, ASUs) and assess their impact on the company; lead implementation efforts for new standards
- Partner with FP&A, Legal, Treasury, Accounting, and business teams to evaluate the accounting implications of new deals, contracts, and business initiatives
- Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors on technical accounting matters
- Assist with the month-end and quarter-end close process for areas involving technical accounting judgment
- Prepare annual impairment analyses on goodwill, intangible assets, ROU assets, and internal-use capitalized software
- Aid in the preparation of financial statement disclosures in accordance with U.S. GAAP
- Partner with the senior manager of equity administration to prepare stock compensation and equity related schedules and disclosures
- Coordinate with external valuation specialists on valuations as needed
- Design, document, and maintain accounting policies
- Assist with the development of internal control framework
- Assist the Chief Accounting Officer with annual insurance policies renewals
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and documentation
- Provide guidance and informal mentorship to other members of the accounting team on technical matters
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting (Big 4 or national firm) and/or technical accounting experience in industry
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including revenue recognition (ASC 606), equity (ASC 480, ASC 815), and debt (ASC 470, ASC 815, ASC 825)
- Excellent research, analytical, and written communication skills; ability to translate complex accounting guidance into clear, practical recommendations
- Experience preparing technical memos and supporting audit requests
- Comfortable working cross-functionally and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications
- Experience in a pre-IPO company environment
- Experience in health insurance environment
- Exposure to internal controls / SOX readiness
- Proficiency with Claude
- Experience with Netsuite accounting software
