About the role

The Zone Capacity Management team aims to provide efficient, well-balanced utilization of Cloud compute, network, and storage resources, leveraging data-driven insights and expertise to organize and optimize placement of customer workloads. The AI and Infrastructure team is redefining what’s possible by empowering Google customers with breakthrough capabilities and insights through AI and Infrastructure at unparalleled scale, efficiency, reliability, and velocity.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data Center Capacity, and SRE teams for technical initiatives and strategies.
  • Coordinate and align roadmap and engineering design with technical leads and business owners across the organization.
  • Drive existing projects and initiatives and hire new team members and lead new efforts in steering Google Compute Engine (GCE) demand.
  • Grow, mentor, and develop a SWE team.
  • Define and uphold high standards for engineering efforts.
  • Foster a healthy team culture and direct involvement with day-to-day operations of the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Experience in C++, Go, Python, or Java.
  • Experience building and supporting a respectful team environment.
  • Experience architecting and developing large-scale distributed systems.
  • Experience in concurrency, multithreading, and synchronization.
  • Concern for maintainability, testing, and support, and appreciation for customer requirements and customer experience.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience. 8 years of experience in software development. 3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture. 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role. 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.

Skills

  • Technical expertise to take on and provide technical leadership to major projects.
  • Manage a team of Engineers.
  • Contribute to product strategy and help develop your team.
  • Optimize your own code and make sure Engineers are able to optimize theirs.
  • Guide the way in managing engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget, and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

Benefits

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. US: $207,000 - $301,000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits
