About the role
A Technician Intern will work alongside a qualified mentor and participate in a Warren CAT-sponsored program to develop the knowledge and expertise to become a Caterpillar Technician.
Responsibilities
- Work under the guidance of a Warren CAT Mentor to:
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair Caterpillar Engines and Machinery.
- Utilize hand tools, air tools, precision measuring tools, laptops, diagnostic software, cranes, and rigging equipment.
- Understand engines, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, mechanical, and pneumatic systems and components.
- Adhere to service manuals and technical guidelines to ensure repairs meet Caterpillar standards and accurately document all service and repair activities.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, lubrication, and filter replacements.
- Remove and install parts, disassemble and assemble components, and test and adjust assemblies.
Requirements
- Maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher during the internship.
- Arrange for housing near the school campus and the local Warren CAT location if required.
- Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Successfully complete the Work Steps assessment.

Important Information
- Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts.
- Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.
- Frequent standing, walking, reaching, finger, handling, feeling, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, using hands and arms to reach with hands and arms, and talking or hearing.
- Frequent exposure to noise levels in the work environment that is usually moderate.
- Travel up to 5%.
- This position is considered a safety sensitive position.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must be enrolled in or have completed at least one year of college coursework.
- Experience with basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and understand service manuals and technical guidelines.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
