About the role

The Pharmacy Intern is supervised by a licensed pharmacist and is involved with the preparation, dispensing, and distributing medication to patients. While being supervised, the individual may engage in all activities related to pharmacy practice. Additionally, opportunities to observe clinical pharmacists will be offered to interns during their available hours, subject to staffing availability.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfills medication orders
  • Delivers medications
  • Compounds both sterile and non-sterile preparations
  • Gathers medication history
  • Interviews patients to obtain medication histories
  • Performs clerical duties in the pharmacy to ensure efficient operations
  • Enters medication and prescription orders into the pharmacy computer system
  • Performs medication and prescription billing activities
  • Holds site and/or system pharmacy intern leadership positions
  • Participates in mock job/residency interviews with CV review
  • Works on project opportunities to work with site and system leadership
  • Engages in an intern development series to learn about various topics pertinent to professional development

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent and current enrollment in an accredited College of Pharmacy
  • Enrolled in the first or second year of a Doctor of Pharmacy degree program
  • Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span
  • Ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in an accredited or approved program in Pharmacy
  • Enrolled in a pharmacy intern program registered with the Board of Pharmacy
  • Knowledge of pharmacy practices and procedures
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Strong attention to details
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Effective multitasking and prioritization skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Integrity, maturity, dependability, a positive attitude and enthusiasm
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
