Responsibilities

• Contribute to the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients by preparing various specimens for processing and analysis while maintaining positive patient identification throughout the preparation process.
• Retrieve and verify patient specimens; track specimens without a requisition.
• Accession wet tissue specimens, outside/consultation material, and cytology specimens.
• Compile work logs and print slides; perform slide cover slipping.
• Handle pathology case distribution; block and slide filing and retrieval.
• Maintain processors and other equipment; perform chemical hazardous waste removal.
• Distill laboratory chemicals; manage record retention.
• Clean and upkeep work areas; dispose of stored patient tissues.
• Order stain requests; answer phones.
• Demonstrate knowledge of pathology Laboratory Information Systems.
• Perform gross examination of surgical biopsies and embedding tissue blocks.
• Assist in other areas as directed.
• Perform duties and communicate in an accurate, professional, and ethical manner.
• Handle chemicals and/or reagents, including chemical hazardous waste materials.
• Demonstrate confidentiality, trustworthiness, and the ability to utilize proper techniques to deal effectively with people in stressful situations.

Qualifications

• Associate of Science degree from an accredited college/university in histology, biology, or a program having emphasized anatomical, biological, and chemical sciences; or high school diploma or GED equivalent and four years of related experience.
• Valid Arizona driver’s license and regular access to a personal vehicle required.

Additional Qualifications

• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated good judgment when dealing with a variety of procedural and technical issues.

Pay

Compensation range is $23.29 - $33.36 per hour.

Schedule

• Full Time
• Hours/Pay Period: 80
• Schedule Details: Monday - Friday, 9:00pm - 5:30am
• Weekend Schedule: As needed
