Team Leader - Mechanic

About the Role

This position is responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring maintenance activities are accomplished in a timely manner. The Team Leader will organize and plan regular maintenance work on all equipment and systems within the plant, review and rationalize preventive maintenance procedures, and evaluate and maximize maintenance procedures in collaboration with other support personnel and staff. The role involves training, developing, and coaching team members for long-term performance.

Responsibilities

• Perform all maintenance on plant and building equipment in a safe manner, ensuring equipment and machines are in good working condition while following GMP policy.
• Assist in training team members in the proper methods and techniques of troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and operation of all building and production equipment.
• Ensure maintenance team compliance with safety training, administer evaluations, enforce company policies, and manage work schedules.
• Assist in managing the implementation and operation of an inventory and PM schedule.
• Supervise multiple shift operations of maintenance technicians.
• Work closely with production Plant Leadership and other department heads to streamline production.
• Identify and recommend new equipment, perform installations, and re-layout production lines as needed.
• Identify areas of opportunity and implement safe, cost-effective solutions.
• Establish priorities for the maintenance department, conduct skills assessments, and identify training opportunities.
• Drive continuous improvements in operations, address production inefficiencies, and implement corrective actions.
• Lead the Maintenance team to meet or exceed regulatory or customer expectations regarding food safety or quality.
• Serve as backup to the Maintenance Shift Leader to meet or exceed regulatory or customer expectations for food safety or quality.
• Perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Utilize CMMS system to receive, generate, and complete daily assigned Preventive & Corrective Work Orders.
• Complete other duties as assigned by the Management Team.
• Be available for flexible shifts, including weekends, overtime, and extended hours, and willing to adjust between shifts as needed.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of food manufacturing experience required.
• Minimum of 3 years in a leadership role preferred.
• Ability to supervise skilled workers and wide experience in plant operations.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Strong troubleshooting ability, technical knowledge of production and building equipment, mechanical and electrical systems, and computer operations.
• Ability to motivate maintenance personnel under pressure.
• Knowledge of industrial tools and test equipment.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment (food industry preferred).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety and Lockout Procedures is an asset.
• Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs is an asset.
• Experience using any CMMS is preferred.
• Knowledge of working with robotics is an asset.
