Team Lead, Operations
About the role
As a Team Lead at DSV, you will coordinate and oversee all operational activities assigned to you daily. Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, you will manage associates dedicated to warehousing, receiving, and shipping of product in alignment with company service and cost objectives. You will play a key role in maintaining performance, safety, and quality standards while complying with all corporate and site-specific policies.
Responsibilities
- Training Responsibilities:
- Mentor and train new and existing associates in distribution activities to meet customer demands.
- Train associates on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for shipping, receiving, picking, and quality control.
- Assist in forklift operation and certification for new and existing associates.
- Shipping/Receiving Responsibilities:
- Oversee and coordinate unloading of inbound shipments, stacking of product, and picking/staging of outbound shipments.
- Verify inbound/outbound paperwork with drivers, ensuring accurate product counts.
- Load orders efficiently and accurately according to doors and trailers.
- Process shipping, receiving, and picking functions per SOPs.
- Research discrepancies in the shipping and receiving process.
- Customer Service:
- Maintain professional appearance and communications at all times.
- Communicate with customers via phone, electronically, or in person.
- Prepare accurate and efficient activity reports for site management.
- Quality Control Responsibilities:
- Use appropriate documentation to ensure correct receipt, shipment, and picking of products/orders.
- Verify products/orders meet quality standards, reporting damages or discrepancies.
- Stack, package, shrink wrap, and label products as required.
- Report inconsistencies or problems to the Operations Supervisor or Manager.
- Participate in quality meetings.
- Safety, Housekeeping, and Compliance:
- Comply with relevant ISO standards impacting the position, department, and company.
- Execute all safety protocols and accomplish tasks in a manner promoting safety.
- Maintain warehouse cleanliness and assist in warehouse security.
- Adhere to SOPs, corporate/site-specific policies, safety rules, and OSHA/MSDS standards.
- Participate in safety meetings.
- Labor Management:
- Direct warehouse work teams to achieve prescribed objectives.
- Assist associates and temporary labor with productivity sheets and accurate payroll hour capture.
- Assist the Supervisor in maintaining a productive workforce and establishing work schedules.
- Ensure schedules are correctly implemented and jobs are assigned effectively.
- Support the Operations Supervisor in ensuring associates handle products per quality procedures.
- Responsibility and Authority:
- Participate in department meetings.
- Initiate actions to prevent non-conformities in product, process, and quality systems.
- Identify, record, and recommend solutions for problems related to product, process, and quality systems.
- Report non-conformities immediately to the Quality Department.
- Equipment Operation:
- Operate equipment such as sit-down, stand-up, reach trucks, sweeper scrubbers, scissor lifts, cherry pickers, Aisle Masters, or pallet jacks.
- Maintain equipment upkeep and report problems.
- Inspect and perform minor maintenance on forklifts or other equipment daily.
- Operate all equipment safely and efficiently per prescribed methods.
- Maintain an active forklift certification.
- Maintenance:
- Perform or assist in building, grounds, and equipment maintenance as assigned.
- Other Duties:
- Perform clerical and administrative tasks as guided by site management (e.g., answering phones, scheduling, filing).
- Work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Work overtime as dictated by business needs, whether mandatory or voluntary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1 year of experience in logistics, distribution, or a relevant environment.
- Ability to operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE).
- Ability to work in unregulated warehouse temperatures (mild to moderate).
- Satisfactory completion of a forklift training program.
Skills
- Computer Skills: Basic computer skills, RF scanners, and WMS functions.
- Language Skills: Proficiency in English (reading, writing, verbal).
- Mathematical Skills: Basic to intermediate level for verifying product quantities, counting inventory, and related tasks.
- Other Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
- Effective and respectful communication at all organizational levels.
- Ability to adapt to change and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2-4 years of experience in a warehouse, logistics, or distribution environment.
- 2-4 years of proven forklift experience.
- Current or prior MHE certification.
Pay
The expected base pay for this position is $26.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, consistent with applicable laws and company policy.
