Team Lead - Materials

About the Role

The Team Lead - Materials is responsible for proactively planning raw materials for the department in a safe and timely manner. This role oversees an assigned area, including all personnel and equipment, and guides the workforce by interpreting section policies and procedures. The Team Lead uses company computer software and approved drawings to direct activities and team members within their production area.

As a member of the Manufacturing Operations team, this role collaborates with functional teams such as Sales Operations, Engineering, Finance, Materials, and HR to execute company strategies, meet budgets, and support planned processes. The Team Lead supports, designs, develops, and implements processes and metrics in manufacturing, including lean, 5S, workplace safety, onboarding, and training. This position demonstrates hands-on leadership in alignment with the Production Manager and Director of Manufacturing Operations to uphold cultural beliefs and values across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Provides daily direction and leadership to team members in the product line.
• Understands and adheres to the Company handbook, section policies, and procedures.
• Performs activities utilizing all machinery and equipment in the assigned section.
• Promotes continuous improvement within the department and organization.
• Examines items produced to ensure they meet specifications.
• Follows documented manufacturing/assembly processes using operational procedures.
• Recommends measures to improve section production methods and overall effectiveness.
• Coordinates daily, weekly, and monthly schedules to meet delivery demands.
• Monitors the quality, quantity, and efficiency of products produced by team members.
• Maintains collaborative relationships with team members to produce excellent products safely and on time.
• Works with team members to provide cross-training and other development opportunities.
• Ensures goals are met and sustained daily, weekly, and monthly.
• Observes safety and security procedures; uses equipment and materials properly; reports unsafe conditions.

Requirements

• High School Diploma.
• Understanding of ERP/MRP systems.
• Displays original thinking and creativity; meets challenges with resourcefulness; generates suggestions for improving work and processes.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Learns quickly when facing new problems; open to change; strives for continuous improvement of self and processes.
• Excellent communication (oral and written).
• Ability to perform basic math, including use of whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Must be able to read a tape measure and simple blueprints.
• Knowledge of production processes.
• Experience with lean concepts and tools.
• Strong analytical, administrative, and organizational skills.
• Help maintain DMS board.

Physical Requirements

• Stand, walk, or be mobile for up to a 10-12-hour shift.
• Ascend, squat, push, and pull up to 75 lbs.
• Bend, twist, and reach with hands and arms to feel objects, tools, or controls, and inspect products.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

Work Environment

Factory shop floor.
