Team Lead
About the role
As a Team Lead at DSV, you will coordinate and oversee all operational activities in the warehousing, receiving, and shipping of product. Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, you will ensure associates meet company objectives in performance, safety, and quality while complying with all corporate and site-specific policies. This role operates on a full-time shift from 4pm to 12:30am in Aurora, IL.
Responsibilities
- Training Responsibilities:
- Mentor and train new and existing associates in distribution activities to meet customer demands.
- Train associates on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for shipping, receiving, picking, and quality control.
- Assist in forklift operation and certification for new and existing associates.
- Shipping/Receiving Responsibilities:
- Oversee unloading of inbound shipments, stacking of product, and picking/staging of outbound shipments for high productivity.
- Verify inbound/outbound paperwork with drivers, ensuring accurate product counts.
- Load orders efficiently and accurately according to doors and trailers.
- Process shipping, receiving, and picking functions per SOPs.
- Research discrepancies in the shipping and receiving process.
- Customer Service:
- Maintain professional appearance and communications at all times.
- Communicate with customers via phone, electronically, or in person.
- Prepare accurate and efficient activity reports for site management.
- Quality Control Responsibilities:
- Use appropriate documentation to ensure correct receipt, shipment, and picking of products/orders.
- Verify products/orders meet quality standards, reporting damages or discrepancies.
- Stack, package, shrink wrap, and label products per SOPs.
- Report inconsistencies or problems to the Operations Supervisor or Manager.
- Participate in quality meetings.
- Safety, Housekeeping, and Compliance:
- Comply with relevant ISO standards impacting the position, department, and company.
- Execute all safety protocols and accomplish tasks in a safe manner.
- Maintain warehouse cleanliness and security.
- Comply with SOPs, corporate/site-specific policies, safety rules, and OSHA/MSDS standards.
- Participate in safety meetings.
- Labor Management:
- Direct warehouse work teams to achieve prescribed objectives.
- Assist associates and temporary labor with productivity sheets and accurate capture of production/payroll hours.
- Assist Supervisor in maintaining a productive workforce and establishing work schedules.
- Ensure schedules are correctly implemented and jobs are assigned effectively.
- Ensure associates handle products according to quality procedures and guidelines.
- Responsibility and Authority:
- Participate in department meetings.
- Initiate action to prevent non-conformities in product, process, and quality systems.
- Identify, record, and recommend solutions for problems relating to product, process, and quality systems.
- Report non-conformities immediately to the Quality Department.
- Equipment Operation:
- Operate equipment such as sit-down, stand-up, reach truck, sweeper scrubber, scissor lift, cherry picker, Aisle Master, or pallet jack.
- Perform daily inspections and minor maintenance on equipment.
- Maintain active forklift certification.
- Maintenance:
- Perform or assist in building, grounds, and equipment maintenance as assigned.
- Other Duties:
- Perform clerical and administrative tasks as guided by site management (e.g., answering phones, scheduling, filing).
- Work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Work overtime as dictated by business needs, whether mandatory or voluntary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1 year of experience in logistics, distribution, or a relevant environment.
- Ability to operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE).
- Ability to work in unregulated warehouse temperatures (mild to moderate).
- Satisfactory completion of a forklift training program.
Skills
- Computer Skills: Basic computer skills, RF scanners, and Warehouse Management System (WMS) functions.
- Language Skills: Proficiency in English (reading, writing, verbal).
- Mathematical Skills: Basic to intermediate level for verifying product quantities, counting inventory, and handling client products.
- Other Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
- Effective communication and adaptability to change.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2-4 years of experience in a warehouse, logistics, or distribution environment.
- 2-4 years of proven forklift experience.
- Current or prior MHE certification.
Physical Demands
- Occasionally: Hand and finger manipulation, sitting, handling product/packaging materials.
- Frequently: Bending.
- Constantly: Walking and standing.
- Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling: 21-50 pounds.
- Other Physical Requirements: Reach above shoulder, reach outward, squat, or kneel.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is rarely exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic, or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
Pay
The expected base pay range for this position is $20.56 – $22.56 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location.
