Teaching Fellow - Education Focused - Mathematics & Statistics

About the role
The Teaching Fellow enhances links between UNSW Sydney and secondary schools, sharing ideas about first-year student circumstances and teaching approaches. The role involves teaching, research, course assessment, administration, curriculum development, and outreach activities. Flexible work arrangements may be considered for applicants from regional, rural, or remote schools.
This is a fixed-term, full-time (35 hours per week) position for 1 year, starting in January 2027. The appointee must not have previously held a Teaching Fellow position at UNSW, and no extension is possible.
Responsibilities
- Deliver mathematics tutorials and other teaching for up to 12 hours per week.
- Carry out teaching-related activities such as class preparation, administration, student consultation, exam supervision, marking assessments, and coordination duties.
- Depending on interest and capacity, undertake lecturing and engage in mathematical research or scholarship.
- Assist in course assessment, administration, curriculum development, and outreach activities.
- Undertake administrative duties as specified by the Head of School and/or the Director of First Year Studies.
- Align with and actively demonstrate the university’s Code of Conduct and Values.
- Cooperate with health and safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
Requirements
- Degree in Mathematics or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated strong mathematical background.
- Experience in teaching mathematics, with recent involvement in teaching years 11 and 12.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Interest in promoting mathematical thinking in schools and the community.
- Understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives, and values.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to relevant training.
Pay
Level A: $113K - $121K plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading.
