About the role

Provides classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction associated with more than one lecture or laboratory course. Assists with the design and execution of administrative functions related to academic instruction and the development of pedagogy/andragogy or assessment tools and resources to support quality student learning. Serves as an instructor of record, working with faculty to identify and develop new methods of advancing instruction in the discipline.

Responsibilities

• Provides classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction, including grading.
• Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements.
• Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy; may train other staff in use of these techniques.
• Supervises the day-to-day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed.
• Assists in development of grant proposals for funding of model instruction programs.
• Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties.
• May make presentations to faculty and staff members on instructional programs and techniques.

Requirements

• At least two years of experience managing instructional laboratory courses in plant pathology or a closely related subject area (classroom, online, and/or laboratory environment).
• Experience assessing student learning in laboratory and lecture settings.
• Experience designing and/or modifying the hands-on components of instructional laboratory activities (e.g., developing learning goals and outcomes, planning materials, obtaining necessary materials, developing protocols, designing assessments).
• Ph.D. in Plant Pathology or related discipline.
• Criminal background check and evaluation/probationary period will be required.
• The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring eligibility for employment in the United States by the start of the appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of basic biology of four major plant pathogen groups (fungi, bacteria, viruses, nematodes).
• Experience working with microbial culture and plant propagation in a laboratory setting.
• Experience providing training and oversight to students/trainees.

Pay

$75,000 - $85,000 depending on qualifications.
