About the Role

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Portland State University seeks to make a non-tenure-track continuous appointment (NTTF-CA) at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. The successful candidate will coordinate the calculus sequence and deliver excellent instruction in algebra and calculus courses. We welcome candidates with a background and expertise in mathematics education. As a university committed to developing a diverse faculty, we are especially interested in candidates from underrepresented groups and in individuals with experience working with diverse student populations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the calculus sequence.
  • Deliver excellent instruction in algebra and calculus courses.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Mathematics Education, Mathematics, or a closely related field in hand at the time of appointment.

  • Experience or willingness to learn and apply evidence-based and culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Commitment to creating an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates differences.
  • Ability to function and communicate effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Willingness to seek opportunities to gain experience working and collaborating in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings.

  • Contribution to a culture of environmental stewardship, resource conservation, and sustainability goals.

Pay

The starting annual salary for this position will be between $92,148 and $96,000, but may be negotiated above this range based on experience, skills, market parity, and internal equity.
