This position provides targeted instructional support to students who are performing below grade level in mathematics, operating under the state's Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTI²) framework. The role involves leading small-group lessons, monitoring progress, and maintaining a structured learning environment as a non-exempt support staff member.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (hourly support staff). Reports to the Building Principal or Lead Interventionist Teacher.

Responsibilities

  • Instructional Support
    • Deliver explicit, targeted math instruction to Tier 2 and Tier 3 students individually or in small groups.
    • Reinforce foundational middle school concepts like ratios, proportional relationships, fractions, and introductory algebraic thinking.
    • Utilize evidence-based math interventions and teacher-designed lesson plans.
    • Adapt delivery styles to meet diverse learning needs and foster confidence in mathematics.
  • Data and Progress Monitoring
    • Assist in collecting daily or weekly progress monitoring data to log student advancement.
    • Help administer benchmark assessments and diagnostic tool check-ins under the supervisor's direction.
    • Maintain detailed, organized logs of student attendance and behavioral responses to the intervention.
  • Classroom Management and Operations
    • Maintain school behavioral expectations to preserve a focused, productive learning atmosphere.
    • Organize instructional kits, math manipulatives, worksheets, and digital educational tools before each group.
    • Monitor student transitions and occasionally assist with standard school duties like lunch or bus oversight.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Meet regularly with certified math teachers and RTI² coordinators to review data and adjust groups.
    • Secure all student records in strict compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma/GED AND a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment, OR an Associate degree.
  • Experience: Experience working with middle-school-aged children or tutoring mathematics is highly preferred.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of basic mathematics.
  • Clear communication skills.
  • Comfort using instructional technology.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly stand, walk, or sit while working directly with student groups.
  • Light physical effort required to lift or move classroom supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
