About the role

The Teaching Assistant (Kindergarten) position at Baker-Butler Elementary School is part-time, working 4.5 hours per day during the 2026-27 school year. This role supports the classroom teacher in managing and instructing students, fostering an engaging and supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Carries out instructional plans as designated by the classroom teacher and IEP if applicable
  • Carrries out follow-up and review lessons
  • Develops and maintains a pleasant and orderly classroom environment
  • Aids in maintaining appropriate classroom behavior and control
  • Carries out appropriate discipline of students with teacher's approval
  • Operates and assists with audio-visual equipment
  • Aids in completing learning tasks assigned by the teacher
  • Aids in related instructional activities such as field trips, library visits, assemblies, etc.
  • Assists in moving students between learning environments
  • Performs clerical duties such as attendance recording, collecting lunch money, typing, filing, and duplicating
  • Supervises students in the lunchroom or during lunch periods
  • Supervises students during free time and other non-instructional periods
  • Assists in maintaining students' records under supervision
  • Assists with toileting, feeding, and positioning of students
  • Participates in team meetings
  • Assists with medical-related duties such as catheterization, gastrointestinal feedings, assistive breathing devices, colostomy and ileostomy needs
  • Assists with carry-over of related services such as Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech, Adapted Physical Education, and Vision

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Willingness to seek and maintain CPR certification
  • Ability to develop and maintain an empathetic attitude toward disabled students
  • Willingness to learn specialized instructional/management techniques employed with disabled students
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills with students, parents, and staff

Skills

  • Basic keyboard and filing training
